How to change fonts in MS 2003?

I'm having trouble with changing the fonts in the task pane. Usually it would drop down to different types of fonts like Arial, Times New Roman, Book Antiqua, etc. However, the only fonts they have are similar to a typewriter, such as Printer 13cpi, Printer 8cpi, or Control. If it is the style, formatting, or the base, how do I change it back? How to change fonts in MS 2003?
In Windows, click on Start | Control Panel | Printers. What printer is selected as the default printer? If it's None or Generic/TextOnly, then change the default printer to one that is capable of printing fonts, and you will see more choices in Word.
