How do you change a file type when downloading? ?

I am trying to download a font, when I try to open it, it goes to word pad and shows letters, numbers and symbols. The type of file it opens with is an application instead of a zip file. Is there a setting that I need to change? How do you change a file type when downloading? ?
Fonts are generally application kind of file then a text file. Font also cant be open cleanly in an editor, like wordpad or office word.

However you should copy that font in Control Panel%26gt;%26gt;Fonts (or may be different path depending on your OS)

Once copied you can then use it in any of your text editor.

Moreover if you want to change the extension of file then use ';save as'; option and put file name in double quote such as ';filename.txt'; or ';filename.zip';.

Hope this helps.
