How do I change the default font on my Mac OSX laptop?

I got a Mac laptop from a friend, and the default font on webpages and typing in messengers is hard to reead... does anyone know how I can change it back to an easily readable font? I've tried looking for font settings, but can't find it, I'm fairly new to Macs, so I'm wondering if there's a place I'm not looking in, lol.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you very much! How do I change the default font on my Mac OSX laptop?
The place to look to change the default font for most programs is in that program's preferences. For example, if you are using Safari as your web browser, go to the Safari menu (next to the blue apple) and choose Preferences. The Appearance tab is where you can change the font settings. There is a similar option for Firefox, and there should be something similar for your messenger program. If you can be more specific on which programs you are using for the web and messaging, I may be able to give you more detailed advice. How do I change the default font on my Mac OSX laptop?
